ABOUT

Partnership between Nameer Davis and Barbara Penrose founded with an inaugural series of twelve folding screens made from recycled materials. These were exhibited in 1998 and offered in limited editions. The folding fan screen design enables quick breakdown into simple furniture elements useful in both forms.

Queensland light was the working premise for these screens The intensity of the sun in Queensland has led to certain architectural economies, one of which – the under-house palings of traditional timber post houses function to secure privacy while enabling airflow.

Our interior screens declare the cutout space, shaping it to embrace vision within the screen plane and project cast sunlit elements into their environment. Stylistically influences come from architectural traditions defined by strong sunlight, the Moorish, Chinese and Indian as well as closer regional pacific architecture informs the work.

Inhouse Screenings partners have independent practices which inform collaborative projects. Most activity over the past decade has been in Pubic Art commissions for fixed screen work. Many of these are entered into at early stages of project construction developing dialogue between building/ landscape designers and the partnership.
